Podgorica, Montenegro (27 June 2019) -- At today's session, the Cabinet passes Draft Law Amending Law on Road Traffic Safety.
Presenting the most important novelties, State Secretary in the Ministry of the Interior Dragan Pejanović pointed out that the proposed normative amendments seek to eliminate the shortcomings of the existing legal solution, harmonise with the EU directives regulating safety issues, as well as create conditions for further improvement of security on the Montenegrin roads.
The State Secretary noted that significant novelties relate to shortening the validity of driving licenses for certain categories of vehicles, as well as certain age categories of drivers. Thus, in the future, licences for the categories C, C + E, C1, C1 + E, D, D + E, D1 and D1 + E will be valid for five years instead of ten. Regarding age categories, the draft law envisages that persons over the age of 67 are issued a driving license with a validity period of up to three years, and the exact validity period for each individual driver will depend on the doctor's certificate.
